ARTIST STATMENT
As we listen to various qualities of music, do we see colors for those sounds? Is the repetitious drum beat overlaid with women’s voices possibly a red sound? How about the flowing notes of an American Indian flute? Then there are the women’s voices singing songs often very personal and only sung among their family groups. Could green represent the flute? Could blue/pink make you think of Women's voices?
American Indian women’s songs were almost lost. Only recently have women recreated/sung again those ancient songs of our American world. Women were prohibited from touching a drum in the northern areas. Women could not use a flute then. Only voices gave women the opportunity to celebrate their lives and loves.
