ARTIST STATMENT
Although the many Victorian houses in the Bay Area have mostly endured through time, becoming an important piece of the area's culture and personality, the opinions and values we attribute to them are in a constant state of flux. What was once admiration and wonder can become something more sour and vice versa once new groups of people begin to appear. In my piece "Haight & Webster" I want to convey these shifting views by collaging several Victorians together into something new but recognizable. How much change is too much change? What do new groups of people need to feel that there is change enough for the better? Is change worth it at the cost of losing what we already have? Maybe we'd all like to live in a big Victorian if it were feasible, or maybe we need something new and more in line with current needs. What's important is to accept that some form of change is always necessary, but it doesn't have to look unpleasant.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I’m an American/Argentinian artist based in San Francisco. I studied fine art in Buenos Aires where I was majoring in sculpture before continuing my studies at SF’s City College.
The abstraction of recognizable forms and symbols is a constant source of inspiration for my art. When I’m not doing that, I’m usually going for long walks around the city, or using my ice cream machine.
