In this painting, I strive to capture the essence of three jazz musicians, their melodies intertwining against the vibrant urban backdrop. Beyond the trio, the scene evokes a profound sense of community, where the spontaneous collaboration of the musicians extends into the heart of the city itself. The lively ambiance of the street corner jam session invites viewers to not only witness but become a part of this shared experience. The energy of the performance and the connection between the musicians resonate through the surrounding environment, fostering a sense of unity that binds the performers, the audience, and the city together in a collective celebration of rhythm and soul.

Habib Hastaie, BFA, MFA, worked in the Washington, DC metropolitan area as an illustrator and creative director for some of the nation’s leading educational and non-profit organizations. His artwork has been published in a range of journals and books, and his paintings and sculptures have been exhibited in juried and solo shows and won awards. Hastaie moved to Marin County in 2019.
