ARTIST STATMENT
"Crmpl IV" explores the dichotomy of pain and beauty by depicting a tissue dissolving in water. The unpronounceable title hints at the unspeakable pain, inviting viewers to delve into the piece's deeper emotional layers. This painting serves as an elegy, capturing a quiet sadness and a sense of mourning.
In Eastern culture, white symbolizes mourning, death, sadness, and loss. Conversely, Western culture often associates white with purity, holiness, peace, and joy. The white tissue in "Crmpl IV" embodies the complexity of these contrasting cultural interpretations. As it dissolves, the tissue's messy dissolution reveals an unexpected beauty, transforming the mundane into something profound.
Through this work, I aim to convey that the pain endured is not wasted. It can be transformed into something beautiful again. By painting these simple forms and overlooked objects, I hope to elevate them, highlighting their intrinsic beauty and the potential for transformation even in the face of suffering. "Crmpl IV" is a meditation on the resilience of the human spirit and the possibility of finding beauty in the most unexpected places.
